PONZI VINEYARDS UNVEILS NEW WINE COUNTRY DESTINATION
A state-of-the-art tasting room opens June 15 at the Willamette Valley-based winery
Sherwood, OR, May 21st, 2013 – Ponzi Vineyards, one of Oregon’s oldest wineries, opens a new, modern tasting room in Sherwood on June 15th. Located at 19500 SW Mountain Home Road, the tasting room will provide guests with innovative wine tasting experiences through table-side service, private events and tours of the four-level, gravity-flow wine-making facility. The famed New World Pinot noir producer introduces hospitality to the winery property and opens it to the public for the first time.
Nestled just beyond the rural community of Scholls, the new tasting room helps close the gap between Willamette Valley wine country and Portland. “We hope to draw visitors from around the world to Washington County and the North Willamette Valley,” says second-generation winery owner Maria Ponzi. “Starting a wine tour in Scholls, just 40 minutes from downtown Portland, makes for a beautiful entry point into the valley.”
At the new facility, visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy varied interactive experiences. While guests may still take advantage of bar-side tastings of an array of Ponzi wines, the emphasis will be on hosted tastings and tours. Guests are encouraged to sit down for an experiential tasting, or glass of their favorite selection and enjoy the seemingly boundless scenery. Knowledgeable servers will offer table-side wine service, similar to that of a wine bar.
“The new tasting room will be unlike any other in the Willamette Valley,” said Kati Focareto, director of hospitality and events. “We’re slowing things down with seated tastings and offering a variety of visitor experiences. The unique setting and offerings will immerse you in the Ponzi and Oregon wine story.”
A wrap-around, heated terrace welcomes guests to enjoy the sensational views year-round. An amphitheater offers the perfect setting for a vineyard-side picnic or game of Bocce ball during the summer months. The expansive plaza lawn joins the new building to the winery and will be available for private event bookings.
With this project, Portland-based designer and builder, Brett Fogelstrom of Fogelstrom Design Build Company, unifies the new hospitality venue with the existing winery, enabling the property to serve both winery guests and production.
The adjacent winery, built into the hillside by founder Dick Ponzi in 2008, facilitates natural gravity-flow production. Daily tours of the facility will give guests a behind-the-scenes look inside the processes and philosophy of Ponzi wine-making.
The new location joins the Ponzi Historic Estate in Beaverton and Dundee-based Ponzi Wine Bar as the producer’s third tasting location. Though all three locations feature daily flights of Ponzi wines, each offers a distinctive visitor experience.
For more than 40 years Ponzi Vineyards has practiced a philosophy of innovation, experimentation, sustainability and achieving consistent excellence in their wines. Over the past two decades, the winery and vineyards have been operated by the second generation, Maria and Luisa Ponzi, under these same guiding principles.
